Bergisch Gladbach, however, is one of the smallest "big" cities in North Rhine-Westphalia. In its current status, the city emerged on January 1, 1975, as part of the district reform of North Rhine-Westphalia, when the old city of Bergisch Gladbach, together with the city of Abensberg and the area of Schildgen, which then belonged to the municipality of Odenthal, was merged into the new city of Bergisch Gladbach (see § 2 of the Cologne Law). This merger was a prerequisite for the city's population to cross the 100,000 mark in 1977. Until the beginning of the 20th century, iron ore was mined in the city. The local restaurant Vendome was recognized in 2011 as one of the 25 best restaurants in the world (21st place according to the British specialized magazine "Restaurant").The city is home to the private amateur observatory Bergisch-Gladbach, where about 400 asteroids have been discovered.

The name of the city is derived from the Lithuanian etymology. Po lang, which means "to the windows". There is a very interesting legend that tells about the sand that covered the house of one of the first inhabitants of Palanga up to the windows. The name of the city most likely comes from the Baltic "root", which means a low muddy place.Since 1824 Palanga belonged to the family of Counts Tiskeviči.During the First World War, Palanga was occupied by the Germans. And in 1919-1921 Palanga became part of the independent Republic of Latvia, but the majority of the population was Lithuanian. The capital of Polish rock
In 2006, the Polish city of Jarocin with a population of 26 thousand inhabitants became another sister city. It is a part of the Greater Poland Voivodeship. The area of the settlement is 1,464 hectares; the distance to Warsaw is 242 km. For most people, Jarocin is associated with two things: a rock festival and a furniture factory. But few people know that the city is also famous for its tourist areas. A leisurely walk around the Polish countryside will definitely not be boring. Everyone will find something for themselves. For example, the dense forests are an ideal place for outdoor activities: hiking, Nordic walking, and fiction writers will be fascinated by the beautiful landscapes, mansions and palaces, churches and chapels. And those looking for peace and quiet will find it near water bodies. Adventure seekers can find many interesting places shrouded in legends and rich in history. The earliest historical mention of the city dates back to the mid-thirteenth century. The archaeological sites found testify to early prehistoric settlements. Some of them date back up to 5000 years. In general, the city was founded and developed as a trading village, as it was located at the crossroads of the main routes from Poznan to Kalisz, Toruń and Wroclaw. The name Jarocin first appeared in a document issued on November 30, 1257.For centuries, three nationalities have peacefully coexisted in Jarocin: Poles, Germans and Jews. A few hundred meters from each other there were Catholic and Protestant churches and a synagogue. But history has made its own adjustments, and now Poles are the predominantly Polish population. People whose names can be found in the political history of Germany and studies of the history of art in Europe were born in Jarocin. These are Eduard Lasker, a lawyer, founder and leader of the Liberal Party in Germany; the world-famous singer Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, the famous artist Emil Leventhal, and other personalities. For a long time, the city has been hosting a rock music festival, which attracts thousands of fans. That is why Jarocin is also called the capital of Polish rock.

Western partner
We can rightly call the city of Tyachiv our partner in various spheres of life. Perhaps, of all our colleagues, we interact with it the most closely, which is noticeable in practice. We exchange experience and accept help from each other. But in addition to business relations, we are united by true friendship. For example, during the floods in Zakarpattia, Bucha provided humanitarian aid to the locals. They contributed a lot to our architecture. In October 2011, the Tyachiv-Bucha Sister Cities Friendship Alley was established in the western region. "It is customary to visit a friend empty-handed. So, during the celebration of the City Day, the residents of Tyachiv received many warm words of congratulations and gifts. And one of them will truly decorate the city, warm hearts and bring joy to its residents for a long time. This gift is an alley of ornamental trees on the reconstructed Poshtova Square from our sister city, Bucha. On behalf of the Tyachiv community, Mayor Ivan Kovach expressed his gratitude for this wonderful gift: "Today we decided to plant an alley of Bucha in Tyachiv, the idea was initiated by Bucha Mayor Anatoliy Fedoruk. We thank him for this gift for our city," the local press wrote at the time. Tyachiv has been a city of district subordination since 1961, the district center of the Zakarpattia region. It is located in the Marmarosh Basin, on the right bank of the Tisza River, 136 km southeast of Uzhhorod. Tyachiv was first mentioned in chronicles in 1329 in a charter of the Magyar King Charles I, where the city, along with Khust, Vyshkovo, Dovhe Pole and Sighet, was classified as a royal city with privileges. National composition of the population: Ukrainians - 73%, Hungarians - 23%, other minorities - 3%.

The city of merchants
Gradually, neighboring Poland also extended a hand of friendship. Thus, in 2004, Tuszyn, which is part of the Lodz Voivodeship and has the status of an urban-rural gmina, became our sister city. 7200 people live on the territory of 23.25 km.40%he main income to the budget comes from the trade of the famous "Tuszyn markets" (owned by the city). The main assortment is clothing made in Poland. The market in Tushyn is very popular in Central Europe and about 800 companies operate on its territory. And this is not surprising. After all, several centuries ago, the city received the Magdeburg Law and became open for commercial purposes. Numerous fairs were held here, sometimes up to 12 times a year. Merchants from Silesia, Mazovia and Greater Poland came to Tuszyn. Now the entire town staff consists of 80 people, who, in addition to the town hall, work in the gymnasium, clinic, municipal police (although there is also a voivodeship and state police). An interesting building in Tuszyn is their swimming pool, which was built on a turnkey basis with budgetary funds - with the provision of all relevant services. The town's population of 80% works without leaving the town. And since 1928, one of the largest pulmonary hospitals in Poland has been operating here. The creation of Tuszyn is associated with a legend that dates back to the time of King Władysław Jagiełło. Once upon a time, this area was a large hotel that opened its doors to kings and princes. Especially when the nobles "indulged" in hunting and needed to rest. It was during one such hunting "outing" that King Władysław's son went missing. After a long search, he was found by a knight who shouted with great joy: "The king's son is here." In gratitude for his rescued descendant, Vladyslav decided to build a town here and gave it the name Tusyn, which today has become Tushyn.Tushyn is an extremely clean town, and the people are friendly and cheerful. They don't have the constant worries and preoccupations that are characteristic of our people. They enjoy life there.

Greetings from France
Pont-de-Chruy is a commune in France, located in the Rhône-Alpes region. The department of the commune is Isère, which is part of the canton of Pont-de-Cheruil. The population of the commune as of 2006 was 4778 people, and the municipality is located at a distance of about 410 km. southeast of Paris. It is a lively, dynamic city, joined by other municipalities.People note that the dynamism of the city often does not correspond to the size of the territory or the number of inhabitants. Thus, after the "industrial period" of Pont-de-Cheruil, the city decisively turned its activities towards trade, crafts, and the development of the service market. Numerous shops began to "grow", education, medicine, local services, and the social sector were modernized. Considerable attention is paid to security - the gendarmerie was built in 1994 and expanded in 2002. 70 firefighters and 68 volunteers work in the rescue center. All of this contributes to the fact that Pont de Cheruil has remained a lively, hospitable city for many years, comfortable for living.

From Bucha to Bucha
Yes, and we have a namesake. However, he lives in Hungary. However, this did not prevent us from establishing friendly relations. In 2004, too. Bucha, Hungary, is a small village with a population of 2,500 people. They are one hour ahead of us in the time zone. Therefore, when we talk about Békész, we mean Bucha, and vice versa (something like Irpin and its neighboring villages).Békész has a population of 21,544 people on its 127.23 km2 territory. The Keres river flows through the city, and the border with Romania is 30 km to the east. Bekesh (Hungarian for "peaceful") was once a castle, and between the 11th and 15th centuries it became the capital of the committee of the same name. It began to recover only in the eighteenth century and already had five neighborhoods and three churches (Catholic, Protestant, and Orthodox).

Ukraine's western gateway to Europe
We became friends with Kovel in 2001. In particular, because the city is the final "point" of the Kyiv-Kovel international road, which passes through Bucha. Kovel is an ancient city with a 700-year history and a population of more than 68,000. It is located on the picturesque plain of Western Polissya, on the banks of the Turia River, in the geographical center of Volyn. Kovel is a city of regional significance. It covers an area of 47 km. In addition, it is one of the largest railway junctions in Western Ukraine, which is of great strategic importance for the state, connecting it with many European countries. Archaeological excavations have proved the existence of a Copper and Stone Age settlement here (mid-3rd millennium BC). According to an ancient legend, the first settler in the area was a skilled blacksmith who forged a sword for Prince Danylo Halytskyi. The settlement was named in honor of the blacksmith. At one time, the town was headed by such historical figures as the Sanguszky princes, Queen Bona, and Prince Andrii Kurbskyi. In 1518, Polish King Sigismund I granted Kovel the Magdeburg Law. By the way, Kovel is the transportation heart of Volyn. Contemporaries call it the city of railroaders, because every fifth person here is a railroad worker. And if you come here in September, you can attend the Sagra del Musso festival, a traditional holiday similar to our City Day.

A "friend" from sunny Italy
We "legalized" our relations with the Italian town of Ospedaletto Euganeo back in 2000. Since then, not that we have been "keeping the water flowing", but at least we do not forget to congratulate each other on holidays. Ospedaleto is a comune in Italy, located in the Veneto region. It is subordinated to the administrative center of Padua. The population is 5395 people, the area is 21 km². Some may initially think that Ospedaletto Euganeo is a shortened word for "Ospedale" or "hospital". But in fact, the name of this city in the province of Padua comes from the medieval Latin word "hospitium" - hospitality. The city was built, and then it became a favorite stop for many pilgrims and tourists during a long walking journey. In other places, the city gates were closed at night and people could not get there. As for the sights, there is a sanctuary in the vicinity of Tresto, built in 1468 to mark the appearance of the Madonna.
